Savvy Boheme: “Tall Americano” Coffee Scrub Review!

Imagine the smell of a robust cup of coffee for a moment… *breathe in* …  *breathe out*  Ahhhhhh 🙂  What does the smell of coffee remind you of? Maybe it reminds you of sweet memories with friends and family or quiet, serene mornings with the company of a good book. Whatever it may be, I truly believe the aroma of coffee brings joy and happiness to people.  🙂

While Savvy Boheme doesn’t sell actual coffee by the cup, they do have a line of coffee scented products to choose from that are soooooo incredibly yummy. Known as “Tall Americano,” this coffee scented line by Savvy Boheme will lift your spirits and quite possibly give you an energy boost. 😉  Coffee scrubs have actually been in the spotlight for some time now, and for good reason! Using coffee as a scrub has many benefits for the skin including:

  • Reducing the appearance of scars
  • Reducing puffiness and redness
  • Reducing the appearance of wrinkles
  • Reducing the appearance of cellulite

(Also– you get a serving of powerful anti-oxidants that help fight free radicals, improving skin tone and appearance.)

=O  I mean… Can you say, win-win?!?!

“Tall Americano” scrubs are made with quality ingredients you can trust as well as you can eat! Check it out 🙂

Ingredients:

Raw, Organic Fair Trade Certified Sugar, Organic, Fair Trade Certified Coffee Beans, Olive Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, Organic Local Honey, Essential Oils of Sweet Orange and Vanilla, Vitamin E.

To Use: Apply product directly to skin, exfoliate skin by scrubbing in a circular motion, while allowing the oils to absorb into skin. Rinse. Pat dry skin before towel drying. (Directions via savvyboheme.com)

“Sweet, robust, citrus and spicy” are four words to perfectly describe this decadent scrub. It is delicious and it will WAKE you UP just like a real cup of joe. 🙂

But WAIT! There’s MORE!

I like to call this next product a “coffee parfait” because I am Oh so original like that, haha. Although, the actual name of this scrub is “Tall Americano: Kathryn’s Reserve.”

It is layered, alternating with coffee scrub and Shea butter. It is my absolute favorite product to use on my skin. I love it! I literally get all giddy when I’m using it. 😀 See, I told you the smell of coffee brings joy and happiness to people! 😉

::Product History::

“Kathryn’s Reserve” is a unique product in that it is named after a friend of Keri Lehmann’s (founder and CEO of Savvy Boheme). Kathryn is currently serving the Lord by living at the Tree of Life Children’s Village in Zambia as the superintendent of Faith Christian Academy. She works among the children to help inspire and nourish their lives! A really amazing thing about this company is that when you buy any Savvy Boheme product(s), a portion of the proceeds goes toward Family Legacy- the ministry Kathryn is a part of. 🙂 So! Not only are you getting quality products that are good for your skin, you are contributing to an awesome cause that helps better the lives of children in need. ❤

“Tall Americano: Kathryn’s Reserve” can actually take care of all of your skin preparations in one easy step! This single product can actually be your make-up remover, cleanser, toner, exfoliator and moisturizer all in one jar! So, for you lazy folks out there (and I say that in the most loving way possible), this product was made just for you. 😉

To Use:

As an all-over body treatment: During shower, apply product directly to wet skin, massaging gently in a circular motions allowing the sugar to exfoliate the skin while beneficial oils absorb and nourish your body. Wait a few moments. Rinse. Gently pat dry. Rub remaining oils into skin.

As a Facial Treatment: Scoop a bit of the scrub with a bit of the shea butter. Apply directly to face, gently exfoliating, removing makeup, cleansing, toning, and moisturizing skin in one application. Wait a few moments. Rinse and pat dry. (Directions for use courtesy of savvyboheme.com)

I especially like this product because it gets my skin all prepped for make-up application. A little will go along way with this scrub and Shea combo too, so keep that in mind.

Aaaaanndd, the longer you leave the scrub on your skin, the softer your skin will feel 😉  (5-7 minutes or so)

When it comes to exfoliating the skin, particularly the face, I personally only exfoliate 3-4 times a week. Savvy Boheme scrubs are gentle enough though and can be used daily if you prefer.

The ingredients in this product are very similar to the coffee sugar scrub, just with the addition of coffee infused Shea butter.

Ingredients:

(Scrub: ) Organic Fair Trade Sugar, Fair Trade Medium Roast Ground Coffee, Olive Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Organic Local Honey, Jojoba Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Essential Oils of Sweet Orange and Vanilla, Vitamin E. | (Shea:) Organic, Fair Trade, Unrefined Shea Butter, Olive Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Rice Powder, Essential Oils of Sweet Orange and Vanilla, Vitamin E.

No preservatives, no fragrances, none of that stuff!

ACURE: Brightening Facial Scrub Review

About a year ago, I was on the hunt for an organic facial scrub after I researched the benefits of exfoliating the skin. Throughout high school and college, I never really thought about exfoliating my face, I mainly just focused on cleansing and moisturizing. I did not know the importance of exfoliating back then and how it helps get rid of dead skin cells, shrinks pores, removes nasty blackheads and helps with cell turnover. I wish I had realized this sooner!  After researching different brands, I decided to purchase ACURE Organics’ Brightening Facial Scrub at my local Sprouts store.

This scrub is like a green juice detox for your face! 🙂

This Brightening Facial Scrub is PACKED with skin-loving ingredients; combined like a well created cocktail! 😉

Just check out this list found on the back of the tube!

Ingredients: Organic Acai Berry Juice, Organic Blackberry Juice, Organic Rosehips Extract (Aqueous), Organic Pomegranate Juice, Organic Rooibos (Aqueous), Organic Calendula Extract (Aqueous), Organic Chamomile Extract (Aqueous), Organic Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Vegetable Glycerin, French Green Clay, Organic Lemon Peel Granules, Coconut Oil, Cellulose Gum (Vegetable), Organic Olive Oil, Organic Sea Kelp, Cocoa Powder, Organic Chlorella Growth Factor, Chlorophyll, Fermented Sugar, Carageenan, Argan Stem Cell Extract, Organic Argan Oil, Potassium Sorbate (Food Grade Preservative), Madonna Lily Leaf Cell Extract, Essential Oil Blend of Sage and Spearmint.

Those are some awesome ingredients, but there might be some you may not recognize or know exactly what they do for the skin. Allow me to help! 🙂

First is French Green Clay. This ingredient has powerful anti-inflammatory & antiseptic properties to help the skin repair/heal itself. It also helps to gently and naturally purge toxins from your pores, making it a great product for those with acne. It helps control oil production and can help prevent acne when used regularly. Similarly, it can also help those suffering with eczema or psoriasis.

Second is Sea Kelp, which is also known as seaweed. I know, I know. Seaweed is gross and slimy and makes girls scream every time it touches their legs in the ocean. Oh, wait… Maybe that’s just me. Haha. But before you get grossed out by this ingredient, let me tell you how great it is for the skin.

Sea Kelp is another ingredient that is great for those with acne/rosacea. It gently exfoliates the skin, has anti-inflammatory properties, reduces redness in the skin and helps control oil production.  Sea kelp also replenishes the skin, leaving you with radiant, smooth, beautiful skin. Fun fact about Sea kelp is that it contains more than 50 minerals and vitamins!

((Side note: French Green Clay (along with Sea Kelp) are the two main ingredients that give this scrub its signature forest green color!))

Next is Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF).  CGF actually comes from the superfood “Chlorella” itself. CGF has many antioxidants and is said to have anti-aging properties which can help slow down the skin’s aging process and help prevent premature aging! Woop woop! CGF extract contains essential fatty acids, which are important for the health of the skin. CGF is also known for stimulating new cell growth and repair.

Lastly we have Argan Stem Cell, which helps to stimulate new cell growth and repair. It also helps boost collagen production, helping to prevent fine lines and wrinkles. It leaves you with smoother and younger looking skin.

There you have it!

I LOVE this scrub so much that sometimes I leave it on for half an hour as a mask instead of just a scrub. Although, they actually do make an exact version of this scrub in a mask form. Lol. I’ll have to try it out one of these days. 🙂

For “product review” purposes, I will say I love how gentle this product is on my skin. It never breaks me out or leaves my skin dry. This scrub leaves my face soooo smooth and soft. It takes out the redness and evens out my skin-tone. It definitely makes my skin glow. 😀 5 golden stars!!! (Keep in mind: I am not paid to write anything on my blog. I just write about these products because I enjoy it and I like telling people about products that I’ve personally tried and that actually work!)

Hopefully this post intrigued you enough to want to try this scrub if you haven’t already! I say that because I have seen hundreds of reviews for this scrub on several different websites. Those reviews are actually what led me to purchase this product!

ACURE’s Brightening Facial Scrub is suitable for all skin types and is sensitive-skin friendly 🙂

You can purchase this scrub at your local Target, Sprouts Farmers Market and Whole Foods Market! Yay for no shipping cost!

This is roughly $9.99 at most stores and as far as I know, it only comes in a 4 oz. tube. It can last you a long time of you use it sparingly. I tend to use way more than I should, but even though I do, this tube lasts me awhile since I alternate it with other scrubs.

Check out ACURE’s entire skincare/hair care line! They have a lot of amazing products.

Enjoy!

Renpure Solutions ‘Rosemary Mint’ Conditioner Review

This is my first review of the very first all-natural hair care product I’ve ever used!

I love that it is sulfate-free, chemical-free, paraben-free and free of synthetic colors. It makes me feel so good to know that I’m finally nourishing my hair with a truly proclaimed all-natural conditioner! Additionally, it’s a universal conditioner for all hair types and is safe for color treated hair.

I remember stumbling upon this conditioner at a local Walgreen’s while shopping with my sister a few months ago. I didn’t really need shampoo or conditioner at the time, but I always find myself in the haircare/make-up aisles when I go to these types of stores. Lol. And of course I saw all the well-known (and chemically loaded) haircare brands like: L’Oreal, Suave, Garnier Fructis, Herbal Essences, etc. To my surprise, there was a small section at the end of the aisle that had natural haircare products. I was impressed and intrigued by the fact that Walgreen’s carries haircare products that are truly natural. High-five Walgreen’s! Kudos.

I picked up (and obviously purchased) Renpure Solutions cleansing conditioner firstly because it was chemical-free, and secondly because of how AWESOME it smelled!!! Holy moly. A sweet, uplifting aroma of Rosemary and Mint. I was hooked and couldn’t WAIT to wash my hair with this stuff! 😀

Some background information about “Renpure Solutions” haircare line is that it is a family-owned-and-operated company, created by the Redmond family. This family has been involved in haircare for more than 45 years and takes pride in choosing safe ingredients to put in their products. Their mission is to provide the ‘safest, most affordable, highest quality products’ for their customers.

The Redmond family is devoted to educating consumers about the negative effects of conventional haircare products, and the way they do so is by providing safe alternatives at affordable prices with their amazing Renpure Solutions haircare line.

>> Now on to the review! <<

Their Rosemary Mint cleansing conditioner smells so divine; the combination of rosemary and mint is genius and the scents complement each other very well. This aroma immediately awakens your senses, yet has relaxing qualities at the same time. With each use of this conditioner, my hair felt rejuvenated and clean. This conditioner literally melts into your hair nourishing each strand with highly respected ingredients of coconut oil, keratin and Shea butter; just to name a few.

What I initially noticed about this conditioner is that it has a liquid consistency, unlike your average conditioner, which is usually thick. I believe that is why the directions on the back of the bottle say to apply 10-12 pumps from roots to ends, because a few pumps won’t be enough to saturate all of your hair. At first, this kind of worried me because I felt like I would go through the bottle much quicker than usual because of how many pumps I’m suggested to use. It’s actually the opposite though because I only wash my hair two-three times a week, so I don’t use it as often.

*For best results: massage the conditioner in your hair for 2-3 minutes. Then, let it sit for 4-5 minutes. Rinse.*

My only negative comment about this conditioner is that it is not a good detangler. When I get out of the shower, I typically get busy doing other things and I don’t immediately brush my hair right after. Maybe I should start doing so, because after using this, my hair gets super tangle-y, and it dries very quickly. Other than that, this conditioner is top notch and I recommend it. I do, however, love how soft, smooth and clean it makes my hair feel once I brush it out and style.

So! Check it out the next time you venture down to your local Walgreen’s. It’s definitely worth a try. 🙂

** This 16 oz. bottle runs at about $10 or so after tax. **

Kahlua Brownie Souffle

A food post! 😀

Finally!

As much fun as I have had with my natural/healthy beauty posts, I mustn’t forget about my love of food. Ahh... Food… Italian. Mexican. German. American. Japanese. Chinese. I love it all ❤  But for now, I’m just going to talk about dessert, which is obviously the most important part of any meal. 😉

Today’s post is all about Chocolate. And alcohol. Combined. Omg, right? .. Whoever came up with the idea first to combine chocolate and alcohol, I’d like to raise a toast to you.

So, I wish I could take credit for this amazing recipe, but I can’t… I actually found it on another blog instead of an actual recipe website. (dyingforchocolate.blogspot.com to be exact).  I found this recipe in an attempt to satisfy my sweet tooth at my sisters’ house, which happens almost every time I visit her. Lol. On this particular evening I wanted to incorporate BOTH chocolate and alcohol into my dessert of choice. I think it was a smart move. 😉

In the words of Barney Stinson “Self-five.” *clap

I promise, this will be a recipe you’ll want to write down and keep in a safe place.

>> Happy Baking! <<

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup cocoa, unsweetened
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2/3 cup melted butter, divided
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 cup Kahlua
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans. (*I did not add walnuts/pecans when I first made this dish, but I will probably add chocolate chips in the future)

Directions:

In a large bowl, combine cocoa and baking soda; blend in 1/3 cup melted butter. Add boiling water and Kahlua; stir until well blended. Stir in sugar, vanilla, beaten eggs and remaining 1/3 cup butter. Stir in flour and salt. (*Optional: Stir nuts/chocolate chips into chocolate brownie batter.)

After you have mixed all ingredients together, Pour chocolate brownie batter into a greased, ‘deep dish’ souffle cup. This recipe is enough for 2 souffle cups. You are welcomed to pour the batter into a 13x9x2 -inch baking pan if you don’t own a souffle cup.

Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes in baking pan. For a brownie souffle, it will take longer to bake. You can start out with setting your timer to 40 minutes or so, but after that,  you will need to watch the souffles carefully so they don’t overcook. I like them to be semi crunchy on the outside and very gooey on the inside. I would say 45 minutes to an hour would be enough time. It all depends on your own personal oven and how you like the texture of your brownies to be. But definitely watch them once 40 minutes has gone by. You can determine if it’s finished cooking by sticking a toothpick or butter knife directly in the center of the brownie. It’s okay if the toothpick or butter knife doesn’t come out completely clean.

That’s it!

This dessert is great when topped off with vanilla ice cream and/or whipped cream.  🙂 🙂

Enjoy!

Blue Moon Soap Review!

So, today we begin the adventures of discovering natural body/bath products! I’m going to start with soaps and body oils first 😀  I’m happy to introduce to you today…drum roll please… The Blue Moon Soap Company 🙂

Blue Moon Soaps could easily be described as an ‘indie’ type of soap company. And those are the BEST kind in my opinion! They just seem to put extra TLC into their products. ❤

I remember discovering this company a few years ago at a fall festival with my friend Cassi. I was just intrigued from the get-go when I saw so many different soaps and body oils, not to mention how amazingly they all smelled. BMS was created by a mother of two daughters who simply wanted a soap that wouldn’t dry their skin out! No matter what soaps she would buy at the store, they all were over-drying. So, the mother did her research and created these awesome soaps herself! All of these soaps are handmade with all-natural ingredients and organic botanicals. She even uses herbs from her own garden!

BMS sells bar soaps, body oils & haircare, body butters and lip balms! I have only purchased bar soaps and body/bath oils from this company though. And the products I’ve bought have really made a difference in the smoothness and texture of my skin. I even gave my older sister a bottle of their lavender body/bath oil for Christmas one year, and now she’s hooked! This stuff really works y’all.

I wash my hands pretty regularly with their bar soaps. It works up a rich creamy lather on your hands, and just smells and feels so CLEAN. That’s what I love about it. Dry hands? This is the soap for you!

Their body/bath oil is superb as well. Unfortunately, they do not make the 8 oz. oil bottles anymore; they now sell their body oils in 2 oz size bottles @ $2.95 each.

Their body/bath oils go a long way, especially if you’re taking a bath. All it takes is a few drops in your bath water. Then, soak for awhile, and you’ll come out with silky, smooth, super soft skin. Works every time. It doesn’t provide bubbles though, but feel free to add bubble bath; you’ll still get those results. Also, you will NOT come out of your bath feeling oily. I can see why some might question that, since it is a bath oil. I just wanted to make that known in case you were wondering. I have found out that when I use this oil in the shower as a body wash so to speak, I tend to use a lot more because it doesn’t lather like their bar soaps, and I like lather Lol. Your best bet would be to use these oils in your bath, and use their bar soaps in the shower, if you want that lather. And since their bar soaps are not made like other bar soaps, which are very drying to your skin, you can rest assured that when using their bar soaps, you will get hydrated, long lasting softness, post-shower skin 🙂

(**Also, the body/bath oil works great as a post-shower moisturizer. After I get out of the shower and dry off, I put a few drops of the oil on my arms and legs, rub it in, and voila! Hydrated, moisturized skin.)

So now I want to tell you about what goes into making these fabulous soaps/oils.

The bar soaps are 3.5 oz  (@ $3.80 each)  and here are the main ingredients: (some of the bar soaps I purchased were made with oats, which I thought was a nice addition to these ingredients below– per their web page)

BAR SOAP (Main) Ingredients: (all soaps are facial quality)  *There are many different bar soap scents available, these are just the main oils used to make them. Visit their website to find out all of their bar soap scents.*

Castor Oil, Helpful for dry chapped skin.

Coconut Oil, Used to promote lather & serves as a protective layer on the skin.

Olive Oil, Softens the skin, reduces scars, soothing for nail & hair care.

Palm Oil, Makes the soap bar hard & long lasting, also a rich source of vitamin A.

Rice Bran Oil, For dry & flaky skin, to reduce inflammation & soothe discomfort due to itchy skin.

Soy Bean Oil,  Soy Bean Oil has been clinically proven to even skin tone and smooth skin texture. Long known for its health benefits, research into the use of soy for skin care has shown multiple skin care benefits, such as: softening and smoothing skin texture: High in natural source lecitihin, sterolins, and vitamin E.

Cocoa Butter, Used to ease dryness & improve skins flexibility. Contains 5IU of vitamin E per ounce.

Mango Butter, is taken from the seed kernels of the fruit of the mango tree. It is similar in texture to shea butter and is much softer than cocoa butter. It has a very light/yellow mango color.

BODY/BATH OIL:  Ingredients are based on specific oil scents. (per BMS webpage)
